Assessment is an important aspect of the work I do. As a teacher, I understand how important it is to be able measure learners' progress. As a highly-experienced language assessor, exam writer and researcher, I also understand how important is to be sure that you're measuring what you intend to measure, and that you're doing it in the most reliable and effective way.
In my work with teachers, I run workshops and seminars around assessment literacy: explaining the theory and concepts behind testing, showing examples of good practice - and also examples of less effective testing methods. Teachers in the workshops learn not only how to articulate the technical aspects of language testing, but also leave feeling more confident that their tests are really measuring what they want to measure and that they can choose or write the most effective test for the job.
